What we’re doing for Education

From child care to school to university and TAFE, we are supporting the next generation of Australians to reach their dreams.

Early Education & Child Care

• Delivering cheaper child care to help more than one million families with the cost of living.

• Setting a path for universal childcare with a 3 Day Guarantee for high quality early education and care and a $1 billion fund to build more childcare centres where they’re needed.

TAFE, Skills & Jobs

• Delivering over 600,000 Free TAFE places and making Free TAFE permanent – helping Australians to gain skills and get ahead, as well as supporting businesses who need more skilled workers.

• Signing a landmark National Skills Agreement to unlock billions of dollars to invest in Australia’s skills and prosperity and put TAFE at the centre of skills and training.

• Established Jobs and Skills Australia to tackle skills shortages and better plan to meet labour market needs.

Schools & Universities

• Signing better, fairer school funding agreements to make sure public schools in the Northern Territory, Western Australia, Tasmania, South Australia and Victoria are fully and fairly funded – delivering record funding to schools and introducing targeted reforms which will help students to catch up, keep up and finish school.

• Improving access to universities in the outer suburbs and regions – doubling the number of university study hubs across the country and establishing hubs in the outer suburbs of our major cities for the first time so people can study near where they live.

• Uncapping satellite broadband to help regional and remote students better access education and content.

Student Debt & Support

• Announced a re-elected Labor Government will cut student debt by 20%, raise the repayment threshold and lower repayment rates.

• Delivered HECS relief, and making sure that student debt never grows faster than wages.

• Establishing a Commonwealth Prac Payment, so Australians studying to be a teacher, a nurse, a midwife or a social worker can get paid while on prac.
