We’re easing cost of living pressures – responsibly

The Albanese Government is focussed on making life better for Australians.

I know that many in our community are doing it tough.

With inflation pressures hitting households, the Government is focussed on delivering responsible cost of living relief for households, families, and small businesses.

At the same time, we are getting on with building a skilled workforce that can get well-paid secure jobs ,while not being inflationary – a strong foundation for a better future for all Australians.

We know family budgets are under pressure. That’s why we’re:

  • delivering targeted energy bill relief of up to $500
  • tripling the GP bulk billing incentive so it is easier and cheaper to see your doctor
  • cutting the cost of medicines by $12.50 a script and halving the costs of 300 medications through 60 day dispensing
  • making child care cheaper for 96 percent of families in the system
  • delivering a 15 per cent pay increase for aged care workers
  • providing 300,000 fee-free TAFE places across the country
  • and helping 170,000 households across the country save on their energy bills and cut their emissions by financing energy saving home upgrades

We also know vulnerable Australians need more support. That’s why we’re lifting the cut-off age for the single parent payment from 8 to 14. And we’re increasing Rent Assistance, study payments and JobSeeker to help make sure no-one is left behind.

In just over a year, we’ve come a long way.

But we know there is a lot of work still to do.
