The Albanese Labor Government has made historic investments in sport, and if re-elected we will build on this legacy by investing $12.1 million to support South Australia women’s football.
This election commitment would deliver $5 million for South Adelaide Football Club, $3.5 million for Glenelg Football Club and $3.5 million for Sturt Football Club.
The investment would go towards female-friendly changerooms to remove the barriers faced by women to ensure they have a place to come together and play sport.
This announcement would also help fund extra player amenities, training facilities, lighting and other field upgrades.
With Gather Round less than a week away, this announcement is another important step towards growing South Australian women’s participation in Australia’s favourite sport.
During our first term, the Albanese Labor Government boosted support for the Olympics and doubled investment in Paralympic sports, and launched the $200m Play Our Way fund for women’s and girls’ sport infrastructure.
Women and girls deserve to have access to facilities that allow for performance at the highest level.
Consistent with past practice, election commitments will be delivered in line with Commonwealth Grants Rules and Principles.
Both Glenelg and Sturt Football Clubs have fought hard for these upgrades – I’m proud to be delivering.
By fully funding these upgrades, we’ll send a clear message to women and girls: you belong on the field, and you deserve top facilities.
Even better, this investment supports Seaview High and Urrbrae Agricultural High Schools.
A win for clubs, schools, and the wider community.
