Much of the important work undertaken by any Parliament is done through the Committee structure.
Committees undertake specific pieces of work on referral from a Minister or from parliament, where they can conduct inquiries, take submissions, and conduct hearings into a matter. They work throughout the year, not just during parliamentary sitting weeks.
I have been appointed to the following committees:
The Committee may inquire into and report on any matter referred to it by either the House or a Minister, including any pre-legislation proposal, bill, motion, petition, vote or expenditure, other financial matter, report or document.
This committee adopted an inquiry into the relationship between domestic, family and sexual violence (DFSV) and suicide on 28 October 2025, following a referral from the Minister for Social Services, the Hon Tanya Plibersek MP.
The Committee is seeking written submissions by 30 January 2026 on the relationship between DFSV victimisation and suicide, and how more accurate data and trends on DFSV deaths can be obtained.
