Committees

Much of the important work undertaken by any Parliament is done through the Committee structure.

Committees undertake specific pieces of work on referral from a Minister or from parliament, they can conduct inquiries, take submissions, and conduct hearings into a matter.  They work throughout the year, not just during parliamentary sitting weeks.

I have been appointed to the following committees:

Chair of the Standing Committee on Social Policy and Legal Affairs

The Committee may inquire into and report on any matter referred to it by either the House or a Minister, including any pre-legislation proposal, bill, motion, petition, vote or expenditure, other financial matter, report or document.

Most recently, the Committee has undertaken an inquiry which looked at how to provide better access for victim-survivors in the family law system to Family Violence Order (FVO) and the effective enforcement of those orders.

The final report was tabled in February 2025 and can be found here:

Further information can be found on the committee page:

Joint Statutory Public Accounts and Audit Committee

The Committee initiates its own inquiries into public administration matters and can conduct inquiries into matters referred to it by either House of Parliament.

It is currently undertaking two inquiries:

Inquiry into the effectiveness of Australia’s National Anti-Doping Scheme

Inquiry into the procurement of mandated national support and advocacy services for victims of child sexual abuse

Joint Standing Committee on Migration
