The Albanese Labor Government is taking action on housing after a decade of little action by the Liberals. We know Australians are doing it tough right now, that’s why we are acting to improve housing affordability.

Helping renters
  • National leadership on renters’ rights, securing a Better Deal for Renters
    and progressing towards a nationally consistent policy to require genuine reasonable grounds for eviction.
  • Increased the maximum rate of Commonwealth Rent Assistance by 15 per cent, the biggest increase in more than 30 years.
  • New incentives to boost the supply of rental housing by changing arrangements for investments in build- to-rent accommodation.
Addressing homelessness
  • Working with the states and territories to deliver a National Housing and Homelessness Plan.
  • Extended vital funding to help combat youth homelessness through the Reconnect program.
Delivering social and affordable housing
  • Delivering the biggest investment in social and affordable housing in a decade with the $10 billion Housing Australia Future Fund.
  • $2 billion Social Housing Accelerator, delivering around 4000 new social rental homes across the country.
Increasing housing supply
  • A new target with states and territories to build 1.2 million new well-located homes, through a $3 billion New Homes Bonus.
